The owls are back. Whilst out in the lambing shed late one night (or was it early morning?) last week the hooting and screeching of two adult Tawny Owls were very noticeable around the owl box. Hopefully, this means that they are about to nest in the box again this year. Last year two chicks were reared despite the fact that they were intent on leaving the nest before they were able to fly. On numerous occasions we found one chick on the ground at the bottom of the tree. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that we do get some chicks again this year and will keep you up to date with developments.
Lambing has started again and despite the hard work it does fill me with a sense of anticipation. After a bit of a wobbly start things have gone reasonably well. Luckily they decided to wait until after the snowy and cold weather and its great to see the lambs out in the field and enjoying the mild dry weather. Seeing lambs out on the lands always makes me feel that Spring is almost here. The first batch of ewes have now lambed and we have a few days to catch up with other things and some sleep. The next batch start in a few days.
